Cyber safety and security has become critical in today’s digital era, where technology permeates every aspect of our lives. To shed light on this important subject, an enlightening session on “Cyber Safety and Security”, was conducted on 18 Oct 2024 by two eminent resource persons, Ms. Anupa Sreedhar, Principal, Achievers Academy, Bangalore and Mr. Sundeep Pai, Principal, Surana Vidyalaya, Bangalore. Their diverse expertise enriched the understanding of key issues related to cyber ethics, cyber security, and various challenges in the digital realm.

The session began with a discussion on cyber ethics, focusing on responsible online behavior, respecting privacy, and adhering to moral principles in the digital space. The resource persons emphasized on the importance of fostering ethical practices to minimize online misconduct and enhance trust in digital interactions. They also explained the fundamentals of cyber security, including how it protects sensitive data, networks, and systems from unauthorized access or attacks. Key concepts like confidentiality, integrity, and availability which were discussed, provided a solid foundation for understanding the importance of safeguarding digital assets.

The speakers stressed the need for individuals to be aware of cyber threats such as phishing, malware, and identity theft. Practical tips for maintaining digital hygiene, such as creating strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, and avoiding suspicious links, were shared. The session delved into common bank fraud tactics, such as phishing emails, card skimming, and unauthorized transactions. Measures to prevent these frauds, including monitoring bank statements, securing online banking credentials, and reporting suspicious activities promptly, were highlighted.

Broader fraud issues in the digital domain, such as fake job offers, online scams, and social engineering tactics, were addressed. Participants were urged to verify sources, avoid sharing sensitive information, and stay vigilant while transacting online. A detailed overview of cybercrimes like hacking, ransomware attacks, and cyberbullying was presented. Real-life examples were shared to illustrate the impact of these crimes on individuals and organizations.

The session on cyber safety and security was an eye-opener, equipping participants with the knowledge and tools to navigate the digital world responsibly and securely.
