“The first step towards change is awareness.” -Nathaniel Brandon

On 14 January 2026, NPS Kengeri took a commendable step towards holistic student development by organizing an insightful workshop on the topic “Awareness program on shielding school children safety”. The resource persons of the session were, Amritha Athresh HR, an expert psychological counsellor having a significant track record of conducting capacity building sessions across various educational institutions and Adv. Pallavi Deshpande a renowned jurist and a certified POSH trainer.

The session conducted by Amritha Athresh started with an activity on real life situation- a task given for students. They participated in the activity and came out with various solutions for the real-life problems. Mrs Amrita highlighted about the central government scheme ‘Sakhi’, a project started in 2019 March under Nirbhaya project, which is mainly working for distressed women and children 24/7.

The resource person explained how Sakhi centres work and their importance in the community related to the topics like domestic violence, sexual harassment cases, cybercrimes, human trafficking , child abuse cases etc. Adv, Pallavi Deshpande, also a legal advisor at ‘Sakhi one stop centre’, started her session on the POCSO Act 2012. She gave a detailed insight on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences.

The students learnt about the key provisions of the act, types of offenses, and the importance of reporting such incidents. The session aimed to empower students with knowledge about their rights and safety. Through this session students gained insight into government initiatives like Sakhi for support and safety; awareness about POCSO Act, 2012, and its implications for child safety and importance of reporting any form of abuse or harassment.

The students found the workshop informative and engaging, appreciating the interactive sessions and real-life examples shared by the resource persons. The workshop successfully achieved its objective of raising awareness about child safety and legal protections among students. It encouraged students to be more vigilant and informed about their safety and rights.
